Taking video calling into the future

We were tasked with creating multiple 360 environments to be used as backgrounds for video calls in the Meta ecosystem.

This was part of the effort to link video calling with AR and VR experiences and push beyond the standard video calling, creating an atmospheric and inviting space for users to hang out in.

Making

Designing stylized social spaces

Each of the scenes we created is unique, but they all have a cohesive stylized look which makes them feel part of the same universe.

We achieved this by using stylized architectural forms, consistent design language and taking into account all of the technical requirements during the design process.

Each scene has four intentional spawn points for users, each designed to accommodate a number of different configurations depending on the number of people joining the group call. There are also several other integrated features like media tiles where user content can be displayed, music spawn points, and mini game triggers to take the social aspect to the next level.

Result

A collection of immsersive 360 environments

We produced seventeen immersive spaces, each mixing stylization and realism, playfulness and simplicity that are complelling and engaging as standalone scenes but also contribute to a unified collection.
