Led by Factory Fifteen Creative Director Kev McCrae, for LA agency ZebraLabs, the task was to design, create, and animate a fully CG music video for Chinese artist Wowkie Zhang. Everything from character design, environments, motion-capture, facial rig, lip-sync, to final grade was given careful consideration to achieve a seemingly effortless animation.

Working closely with Director Jean-Charles Charavin, the team conceptualized a world in which we would transform the artist into a bespoke avatar. For this, we took reference from Bauhaus aesthetics to simple toy designs, and by fusing the two together, we created a visually striking, energetic piece. From Beijing, China to LA, California, the mo-cap was then choreographed and recorded in Paris at MocapLab.

The animated music video brought Wonky Zhang’s distinctive sound and visual identity to life, creating a memorable piece of content that resonated with audiences across digital platforms. Combining playful storytelling with a bold animation style, the film helped strengthen the artist’s creative brand while contributing to the strong engagement and viewership that Wonky Zhang’s releases consistently achieve.
