Painting with your body for Nissan

01

brief

"We need a piece of interactive content that speaks of electric energy, with a human touch"

E-Brush is a collaborative artwork generator that represents electric energy. It was developed for Nissan’s Formula E division as part of their race event booth. The wall comes to life through passive and direct human interaction, with the idea being that your input leaves its mark. Your body serves as the brush, and the digital screens serve as the canvas.

02

making

We programmed a surface to respond to direction and depth, both impacting the colour intensity of your bodily effect.

We utilized floor-mounted, wide-scan tracking cameras, to monitor the movement of as many as 12 people simultaneously. We used depth-based triggers to control the intensity of the effect . The interactive surface was extended over eight OLED screens.

We wanted to create something that really mirrored the ethos of Formula-E; Electric energy in your hands.

A great expression of human controlled electric energy, mirroring the electric powered Formula-E cars on display.

As the event traveled worldwide, we programmed the color palette of each event to match the energy of each country. This resulted in 14 unique pieces of art at the end of each day. Afterwards, the artwork was emailed to everyone who contributed to it.
